    Looking Through the Prism

By this point, very few professional .NET developers have not heard about WPF.  A quick foray into any magazine, website, or podcast of the .NET persuasion will reward developers with a landslide of WPF related information.

Although initial adoption has been slow, WPF is steadily gaining ground as the next generation display technology for both Windows desktop and ASP.NET applications.  However, many people don't know where to even begin learning a technology that's so fundamentally different than the display technologies of the past.

Lucky for us, that's where Prism comes in.  Prism is the newest guidance offering from Microsoft's Patterns and Practices Group and is designed to help developers leverage WPF for client applications in the most efficient way possible.  Originally seen as a simple port of the Composite UI Application Block (CAB), Prism has gone beyond this label and combined lessons learned from CAB with the new capabilities of WPF in order to create a much lighter-weight and more flexible application framework which exploits the new abilities of WPF to their fullest.

This presentation will take developers on a "Soup to Nuts" tour of Prism by using it to create a simple but completely functional application.  Through this process, we'll discuss the underlying fundamentals and patterns behind Prism, as well as their advantages and disadvantages, and how they can best be used to build your next client application.
